Why We Choose Aloe Vera over Oatmeal
From Queensland Farms to Your Dog’s Bath
When it comes to choosing ingredients for our shampoos, we’re always asking one simple question: what genuinely supports skin health in a way that feels gentle, effective, and sustainable for everyday use?
One ingredient that kept standing out for us was organic Aloe Vera.
Not as a trend. Not as a label claim. But as a naturally soothing, deeply hydrating ingredient that works beautifully across a wide range of skin types - from sensitive, reactive skin through to healthy coats that just need balanced care.
And just as importantly, we source our organic aloe vera from Queensland farms, keeping it as local and Australian made as possible. It’s a decision rooted in both ingredient quality and a commitment to supporting Australian growers.
Why Aloe Vera?
Aloe vera has long been valued for its calming and hydrating properties. In skincare, it’s often used to help comfort dry or irritated skin, but its benefits go beyond just “sensitive skin support.”
In our shampoo formulas, aloe vera helps to:
- Deliver lightweight hydration without heaviness or residue
- Support skin comfort during and after washing
- Maintain softness in both skin and coat
- Work across a broad range of coat types and skin conditions
One of the things we love most about aloe vera is its versatility. It doesn’t sit on the skin in a heavy way; instead, it integrates into the wash experience, supporting the skin’s natural balance while still rinsing cleanly.
And if you’ve ever noticed your own hands feeling softer after washing your dog, that’s not an accident. Aloe vera is one of those rare ingredients that feels gentle on both ends of the lead.
Why not Oatmeal?
Oatmeal is commonly used in pet shampoos, and it certainly has its place. It can provide a thorough clean, removing dirt and oils quickly.
However, oatmeal shampoos tend to be heavier by nature, therefore not ideal for dry skin. They can sit more on the surface of the skin and coat, which isn’t always ideal for regular bathing routines or for coats that need a lighter finish.
From a formulation perspective, the end result can sometimes lean more towards coating than true lightweight hydration.
We wanted something different. Something that supports the skin without weighing it down.
That’s where aloe vera became the clear choice.
From Queensland Farms To Your Dog’s Bath
We’re proud to use organic aloe vera grown in Queensland wherever possible. Keeping ingredients closer to home matters to us - not just for quality control, but because it supports local growers and reduces unnecessary complexity in sourcing.
There’s something quite simple and honest about that journey:
Sun-grown aloe, harvested locally, carefully formulated, and then used in your dog’s bath at home.
It’s a small ingredient story, but one that reflects how we think about everything we create - intentional, considered, and focused on real skin health rather than marketing trends.
The Bigger Picture
At the heart of it, choosing aloe vera wasn’t about rejecting other ingredients. It was about designing a formula that feels light, effective, and genuinely comfortable for everyday use - across all coat types, not just sensitive ones.
Because healthy skin isn’t just about treating irritation when it appears. It’s about maintaining balance every time you wash.
And sometimes, the simplest ingredients - when chosen carefully - do the best job of all.
