Not all Alcohols are Equal

There are two types of alcohols, short chain and long chain.

When products state they are alcohol free, this is quick hand referring to short chain alcohols such as ethyl alcohol, methyl alcohol (ethanol or methanol) or even propanol, propyl alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. These alcohols are great in something like glass cleaner for a quick drying finish, but that's not really great for your skin! They dehydrate your dogs skin and coat, stripping essential oils and leave your dog with dry and itchy skin.

Long chain alcohols refer to fatty alcohols such as cetyl alcohol and cetearyl alcohol. These healthy alcohols are typically naturally derived from plant based sources such as vegetable oil. The 'long chain' provides the opposite effect to the 'short chain' alcohols, such as hydrating and moisturising the skin and coat. These alcohols are part of our conditioning formulas and actually completely safe.
